City Marshal Fights Identity Theft

Ward 3 Lake Charles City Marshal Joey Alcede has partnered with the Federal Trade Commission in an effort to fight back against identity theft. Recent surveys have indicated the subject of identity theft is a major concern of today's consumers. Identity theft has affected millions of Americans, including Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, and Tiger Woods. The Marshal is offering a presentation to local groups or organizations in an effort to educate consumers.

The three main points of the program are to “deter” identity thieves by safeguarding your information, “detect” suspicious activity by routinely monitoring your financial accounts and billing statements, and "defend" against identity theft as soon as you suspect a problem.
